A R T I S T F E A T U R E K R I S H A R D Y G O O D V E R S U S E V I L Kris Hardy creates distinctive statement pieces inspired by a diverse and fascinating array of characters and subjects, ranging from superheroes to cityscapes. These are paintings for the age we live in, where every moment is high-octane and life is lived at a faster pace than ever before. The common element that draws this creative outpouring together is perhaps best described as vitality. Every canvas fizzes with energy and movement, as every character, city, creature or car is either poised for action or moving at speed. Painting in oil, watercolour and acrylics on canvas, Kris is influenced by many things, from graffiti to the Renaissance, but most recently he has been exploring his childhood passion for comic books. In recent times, popular culture, in particular cinema, has led to a trend for modern interpretations of comic book heroes and villains. Many contemporary artists have grown up with the movie versions, and in his new collection, Kris pays tribute to the 1930s comic book archives. “From Wolverine to Wonder Woman, I have always loved those comic book icons who made it onto the big screen. I grew up with AdamWest’s friendly TV Batman, but when I saw the first of the big movies at the cinema I was blown away. These intense and often dark or sinister characters (and their wheels) provided some of my earliest inspiration, and as you can see, it proved to be a lasting passion.” Kris has been a professional artist since 2003 and his work is becoming increasingly collectable across the UK.
