Stephen Ford - New Collection

I think it’s inevitable that the artist is present in their work, whatever the subject. The way that I paint is just a constant unpacking of the things I see and read and my subjective interaction with them. I can only view the world with my own eyes, so anything I create is a reaction to that. For me, being an artist is about self-exploration and then learning to make that self- exploration about something bigger than oneself. For this series of paintings I’m particularly thinking about human encroachment on the environment and about the animal subjects as consumable objects. Subsequently I’ve been lacing the layers of paint with incongruous colours which I feel convey this, such as gold, copper and fluorescent pink. “ “
